By delivering the ability to execute two synchronous movements in a single package, the DualGear is targeting compact applications in the conveyor and logistics industries.
Faulhaber has released a new high-performance drive solution which is a combination of their BX4 brushless motor and GPT planetary gearheads in a single package. The BX4 rests in the middle of the drive, flanked by a GPT gearhead at each end. The result, the DualGear, is a drive system designed for use with conveyor belts and compact wheel drives of autonomous logistics systems that can achieve two synchronous movements on its own.
The DualGear’s BX4 brushless motor is available in two motor lengths, 42 mm and 68 mm, depending on performance and installation space requirements. Both versions feature hall sensors with sine/cosine output signals that enable precise detection of the rotor position for exact commutation and positioning. In combination with an external motion controller, accurate positioning movement is possible, resulting in a drive system that combines torque and maximum accuracy with a compact design.
The GPT planetary gearheads, meanwhile, are available with up to three stages to meet exact dimensioning, speed, and torque requirements. The components have only welded joints to ensure reliable and durable construction without the use of adhesives.
This design was developed to help manufacturers save on space, system costs, and integration effort. With a particular eye towards executing two synchronous movements with a single drive and central control, Faulhaber is looking to help manufacturers unlock entirely new approaches for efficient, simple system architectures without compromising on the usual performance demands of the logistics industry.
