Maxxdrive industrial gear units were front and center as Nord discussed their various applications across several steps of the wastewater treatment process.
In a recent effort to court wastewater treatment facilities, Nord released an explainer detailing how their many long-running gear drive and frequency drive product lines support each step of the process across several use cases and different machines. With literally thousands of products to swap in and out to build modular solutions, Nord has a fairly exhaustive portfolio that covers numerous use cases across several industries.
Starting at the beginning, Nord discussed screening applications, highlighting their ability to automate mechanical cleaning screens. For this application, they recommended Maxxdrive XC industrial gear units and parallel shaft gear units for their continuous high efficiency performance to keep systems running effectively. Their compact, single-piece Unicase design is designed for simple installation, low maintenance costs and a long service life. A true drywell design provides additional support and greater operational reliability.
Aeration was next up. Nord’s drive solutions for these applications are high performance Maxxdrive industrial gear units and Unicase parallel shaft gear units. These drives provide reliable, continuous operation with a compact, low maintenance design built to provide a long service life, high load capacity and cost savings. Additional configuration options include an advanced sealing system for leak protection, high-quality, low-friction bearings, a pressure (force) lubrication system and vertical and horizontal alignment options to best fit application requirements.
Next, Nord took a look at pump applications. Nord gear units optimize pump efficiency and prevent backups, keeping systems throughout the plant running smoothly and moving water from one process to the next. Unicase helical inline gear units have a compact design that enables them to easily fit in the tight installation spaces common with pumps. They offer flexible configurations with closely stepped ratios, versatile foot or flange mounting, and 11 case sizes to choose from. Drive solutions for pumps can also be equipped with IP66 ingress protection, corrosion resistant surface protection, a Quadralip sealing system and dual shaft sealing rings to protect the system from the wet environmental conditions and prevent leaks.
Nord also discussed clarifying, for which Nord provides gear units for filtration and skimmer applications that focus on reliable operation with high system availability, low maintenance costs, precise control options and special surface protection options. Unicase helical bevel gear units and Unicase parallel shaft gear units are their products of choice for these applications thanks to their efficient performance and high axial and radial load capacity.
Finally, they tackled the sludge thickening process, which requires drives that can handle high loads and resist wear and corrosion, as well as prevent blockages. For these heavy-duty applications, Nord recommended Maxxdrive industrial gear units, Unicase parallel shaft gear units and Nordac Pro variable frequency drives for control cabinets. These robust gear units are built to withstand tough environmental conditions and can be configured with a reinforced drive shaft extension, offering a long service life and reduced maintenance requirements. Nordac VFDs precisely control the speed of the basin paddles, effectively increasing the solids concentration and reducing free water. They also feature an integrated Posicon positioning mode and synchronization, an integrated PLC for drive-related functions and an intelligent energy saving function for optimal operation under partial load or low speeds, handling all types of liquid-solid mixes with ease.
