The OnRobot 2FGP20 Fork was designed to handle packaging that cannot be lifted with vacuum or side gripping.
OnRobot has announced the launch of the 2FGP20 Fork, a standardized, all-electric fork palletizing gripper designed specifically for open boxes, display boxes, and other low-rigidity boxes. The tool handles box payloads up to 16 kg (35.2 lbs) across major industrial and collaborative robot brands, allowing customers to replace costly custom engineering with a plug-and-play solution.
“Palletizing open or low-rigidity boxes has often required custom pneumatic tooling, adding engineering time, cost, and complexity,” said Enrico Krog Iversen, CEO of OnRobot. “The 2FGP20 Fork gives integrators and manufacturers a ready-to-deploy electric alternative that accelerates time-to-value. It also eliminates the need for external compressed air and can be configured for a wide range of palletizing applications.”
Feedback from OnRobot integration partners suggests that packaging that cannot be lifted with vacuum or side gripping represents a significant share of potential palletizing projects. These include open cartons, display boxes, and shrink-wrapped trays without the flat airtight top surface that traditional vacuum grippers require for suction. Many of these applications have traditionally required custom pneumatic tooling or remained manual because standard grippers could not handle the packaging reliably, limiting operational throughput.
To replace costly custom tooling and reduce total cost of ownership, OnRobot developed the 2FGP20 Fork as an out-of-the-box electric solution. The gripper lifts packages from underneath and stabilizes them from above with an adjustable top clamp applying 10 N to 40 N of holding force. Four standard fork configurations accommodate different box sizes and palletizing setups.
By operating entirely on electricity, the tool eliminates compressed air infrastructure, significantly lowering installation complexity, energy consumption and ongoing maintenance costs. In addition, an integrated electric vacuum pump picks and places interlayer slip sheets up to 2.5 kg (5.5 lbs) without requiring tool changes or interrupting cycles.
Field testing by OnRobot integration partners highlights the operational shift enabled by standardized tooling and intuitive software: “Previously, our client addressed this type of palletizing in a traditional way, using bespoke tools built specifically for the cell, which carried a heavy burden in design, manufacturing, testing, and commissioning,” explained Javier Tena, Director of Operations at PowerBots. “With OnRobot's new tool and D:PLOY software, we can handle hundreds of distinct box references, picking from below or laterally with guaranteed success. Programming patterns for so many references used to take months; now, using the automated programming platform provided through D:PLOY, anyone without advanced robotics programming experience can set up the next box pattern,” he said, referencing the 2FGP20 Fork as a true game changer.
